But now we have light, and colour, and NO effects...! I'm becoming braver as a model...! Ai ai ai... Maybe that's why I didn't find models yet... I love doing self portraits, obviously, but working with models is what I love to do the most, and that's my goal with this blog, too. I already had two postponed shoots for erotic photography... Just waiting for the models to find the time to come and pose. Life is so busy, and posing is no number one priority for them of course. Even when photographing is my number one priority... It's like riding a bike. Those first the wobbly tracks as tentative pedals turn; soon turn into confident grips on the handle bars as pedals are pushed with powerful strokes.
Your confidence will grow with each snap of the shutter, with each experiment tried; whether success or failure - you need both, with each push of the comfort level you will gain the tools to move forward.
You have chosen a hard path with self portraits. Not only are you trying to grow as a photographer but at the same time as a model also.
I applaud your motive of not asking a model to do what you have not tried. Now when asking her to spread her legs wide and insert her finger inside her vagina; you will know how open, exposed and vulnerable she may feel.

Yes, D.L. Wood, I learned a lot about working with models by posing for self portraits. The more technical things about posing, but indeed, also about how it feels to be in front of the lens, nude or not. I think it's something a lot of photographers don't realize enough: You can be the best photographer, technically, but if you are not able to make your model feel comfortable, and to guide her, your photos will never be more than average. I saw the helpless models with some of my classmates. They think the model has to do all the work and they themselves just have to push the shutter release... And so the (experienced) model just starts to show her typical model- poses one by one. And I would feel ridiculous as a photographer, and as a woman, if I myself would not dare to do what I would like the model to do. I would feel like a hypocrite, really. I could go look for models on model- sites. But that's not what I want. I hope to keep working with women who never, or hardly ever, posed before. Big part of my fun is to show them how lovely they are. So working with an experienced model, who of course already feels like she's a beautiful woman, would leave me with only the more technical stuff of making a nice photo. About growing as a model myself: I don't feel like it's about growing as a model. It's more about personal growth as a human! Self- knowledge, accepting yourself, and so on. Still, I'm stubborn, even on moments that I myself don't know why I do these things, I still go on! :-)) I'm not a model, and surely not an actress, what you see is what you get, I guess.
